Virgin Expands to China

Billionaire Richard Branson has been an outspoken proponent of innovative global warming solutions. And he’s put his money where his mouth is, like using fuel efficient jets or trains that run on biofuels.

ChinaNow he’s planning a company in China to help the burgeoning nation develop clean technologies and slash emissions.

China’s sheer size, rapid economic development and implementation of clean energy laws make it one of the fastest growing cleantech markets on the planet. In fact, theΒ  DC-based nonprofit Worldwatch finds that China will be the top market in every renewable energy sector in the world within three years.

Branson noted that China’s commitment makes it an attractive location for new cleantech industries:

China is being very proactive in trying to encourage the development of clean energy. We have clean energy companies in Europe and America which have been developing clean fuels, wind power, solar power.

By some accounts, China surpassed the U.S. last year as the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide (CO2) – a major contributor to global warming.
