This Blogger’s Getting Back to Blogging…

writer on old typewriterOver the past few months, my own blogging output has dropped dramatically as I’ve focused on “behind the scenes” efforts for the larger GO Media network. While that was a necessary step, and one that’s contributed to the network’s dramatic growth over the past few months, I’ve also really missed blogging.Β  Building a company is exciting and rewarding, but through every strategy session and conference call and networking event, I’ve always known that, at heart, I’m a writer. And I wanted to get back to that…

So, as of September 30, I’ll be stepping down from my role as Senior Editor of Green Options Media in order to do the work I most love doing: writing. I’ve been thrilled with the way sustainablog’s developed as a group blog, and will focus my time and effort on posting here regularly, and leading our team of regular contributors. Managing Editor Clayton Cornell will take over leading the network; this decision came easier once I knew that GO Media’s editorial direction would be in such capable hands.

That doesn’t mean this was a decision I came to easily, though: the past two years have been among the most exciting and educational of my life. I’ve not only learned the ins and outs of social media, search engine optimization, and all of the other elements that contribute to a successful web site, but also received a broad education about business.Β  Both successes and mistakes contributed to this learning process, and I’m grateful for both.Β  I’m also grateful to my partners and co-workers for their creativity, resourcefulness, and determination… we wouldn’t have gotten here without all of our efforts.

As so much of my work has involved building and developing the writing team, I want to express sincere gratitude to all of our contributors across the GO Media network.Β  A handful of writers have been with us from the very beginning; others have just joined us. I’ve learned from all of you, though, and deeply appreciate your commitment, your intelligence, and your generosity to our audience. None of us would be here if it weren’t for your dedication towards our mission of “empowering sustainable choices.” I’m looking forward to continuing on as one of you.

Finally, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to find an audience of people excited by the notion of living more sustainably. While it’s our job to provide content and information, we still learn an awful lot from those of you who’ve come by one or more of our blogs regularly. I’m ready to get back into the mix of discussion and debate, and to learn even more from you.

It’s been a great ride, which is why I’m not getting off; I’m just changing seats. I hope you’ll continue on with us…

What an outstanding showcase of personal interest. I was AMAZED to see that while you have other blog entries that have hundreds of views, that this one hasn’t garnered any comments at all yet.

Being able to “step into” the role that you want for personal edification is something I am TOTALLY envious of you for πŸ™‚ Being able to strut “back to writing” is something that I encourage everyone to do, not only because of the potential opportunities to understand the world around you but also to understand and help others to understand more about yourself.

A great post and I will be visiting your blog and writing efforts REGULARLY.

Thanks again and have a great day!

@Mike — thanks so much for your kind words! I’m definitely looking forward to the transition. And, we should do coffee sometime… we Lou’ bloggers have to stick together!

@Fabian… thanks so much! Now I can also get back to reading more of my fellow green bloggers, so back at’cha…

Good for you, Jeff. More of your voice will be a boon to the national conversation about the environment. I’ll be tuning in!

This move has to be good for Green Options, too — in the end, no matter how smart the business strategy is and how slick its implementation (and imo Green Options is very smart and slick), content remains king. The more value you guys are putting out there for us readers, the more sustainable the long-term prognosis. I’ve been around the publishing-industry block enough to have learned that when it’s clear that a media shop has lost sight of the primacy of quality content it’s time to start looking for new gigs. Bodes well for Green Options that a well-established blogger such as yourself is able to get back to doing what brought you notice in the first place.

It’s about damn time, Jeff. I was beginning to think you were becoming a stuffy behind the scenes business type. Just playing, I know your work has helped the company brand, but the green blogosphere will be better now that you’re back.

@Preston — nope… I’m definitely not cut out for a “stuffy behind the scenes type”

@Paul, bobbyb — thank you! Bobby, keep me honest…;-)

@Sandy — you’re so incredibly kind! I’m really looking forward to seeing how the new site develops — looks great!
