SUNfiltered: Project P.U.M.A. — a Greener Solution for Urban Mobility?

But this new concept vehicle, a joint project of GM and Segway, may be just the ticket for the driving most of us do on a daily basis.

The vehicle was introduced to the media on Tuesday at the New York Auto Show, and Segway CEO Jim Norrod described the P.U.M.A. as “…a dramatically different approach to urban mobility”:

    Bicycles and motorized vehicles are forbidden from most sidewalks, unless their operators are physically disabled. If this is classified as a motorized vehicle and forced to travel the streets, is it a motorcycle or an automobile? If an automobile, it is a death trap. If a motorcycle, it is still a death trap. If given a designated lane to avoid pedestrians and traffic, will constructing the designated lanes offset the green goodness of the idea? Why isn’t the fellow in the photo smiling?
