Been on the road this week, so a bit less attuned to what’s going on in the green blogosphere… but this morning’s quicker-than-usual scan still shows an awful lot of oil spill news. Not surprising, of course… but many, many other interesting, relevant stories out there. Here’s five that caught my eye…

Five for Friday: A few great green blog posts for you…

  • Marvin Gaye responds to the oil spill: OK, not really, but Planetsave takes note of The Mercy Project, which remade Gaye’s classic eco- pop song “Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)” to raise funds for the oil spill.
  • Synthetic Fertilizers Good for the Climate? That’s the argument a team at Stanford makes in a new paper, claiming that without fertilizers, we’d have leveled more forests to increase agricultural output. FromΒ NYT’s Green
  • German boy plants 1 million trees: Well, not by himself… but, from the age of 9, Felix Finkbeiner has been pushing tree planting. By the time he was 12, his organization Plant for the Planet had planted a million trees in Felix’s home country. Thanks to Care2 Healthy & Green Living for the heads up…
  • Saving glaciers by painting mountains white: That’s what they’re trying in Peru… Inventor Eduardo Gold’s idea involves painting mountains with a paint made from lime and egg whites. Despite a lack of funding thus far, they’re moving ahead, according to Green Living Ideas.
  • Whale poop is good stuff: “Save the whales” takes on a whole new meaning…Β A new study in The Proceedings of the Royal Society B argues that sperm whale poop is a viable weapon against climate change, according to Crisp Green.

That’s our five… share your own interesting, eye-catching finds from the week with us in the comments.
