Young St. Louis Farmer Snags NRDC Growing Green Award

In 2009, I spent several months volunteering with a new non-profit organization dedicated to small-scale, local food production… EarthDance. The organization’s founder, Molly Rockamann, was a total powerhouse of energy and passion… I had trouble keeping up! Though I couldn’t give the organization the time it needed, I really loved the concept: getting urbanites and suburbanites onto the land via apprenticeships to carry on knowledge of agriculture that’s quickly being lost in the US. I had no doubt the idea would work.

So, I wasn’t completely surprised (but was very pleased) to see that the NRDC had awarded Molly one of this year’s “Growing Green” awards: she won in the Young Food Leader category. I could go on and on about how cool this is for the region, and for Molly and her organization, but don’t really need to: part of the honor she received was the opportunity to write a post for the OnEarth blog about the inspiration for EarthDance. I’ll leave it at “Congratulations!” and “Well-deserved!” and let you read her thoughts.
