Sometimes, It's OK to Turn Into a Pumpkin: 5 DIY All-Natural Pumpkin Beauty Recipes

After you’re done preparing your holiday dishes and desserts, take some time to pamper your skin with these five all-natural beauty treatments using leftover pumpkin and a few other pantry ingredients.

Pumpkin is a great addition to your skincare regime because it’s rich in minerals and vitamins A and C, which are essential in soothing and softening dry, damaged skin. The pulp from the orange vegetable also is excellent for treating acne and other skin irritants as it contains vitamin E and torulitine, which aids in fighting inflammation, reducing pore size, limiting excess oil production, among other remedies.

You can pass on those high-end, and usually pricey, spa pumpkin peels by trying one of these quick and easy recipes. Your skin will have a radiant and youthful glow just in time for the holiday season!

Please note: If you have never applied pumpkin to your skin before, it is best to first test it on a small section of your skin. If you feel any discomfort, please don’t continue with these skincare treatments.

1. Face Scrub

Reduce the appearance of fine lines and refresh your beautiful visage with a simple facial scrub of pumpkin puree, egg white, plain yogurt and honey. The pumpkin and egg will spur new skin cell production, while the yogurt and honey act as an exfoliator and cleaning agent to guarantee you a fresh look for fall. Mix all of the ingredients together then lather it onto your entire face; be sure to avoid your eyes. Rinse with warm water after 10 minutes. Complete your facial by applying a moisturizer of your choice. Enjoy!

2. Face Mask for all Skin Types

Nurture and revive your face with an orange-tinted beauty treatment of cooked pumpkin and honey. You then can add one of the following optional ingredients to your mixture based on your individual skincare needs: heavy whipping cream will help to add moisture to dry skin and apple cider or cranberry juice will lessen oily build-up to give you a cleaner feeling.

Whip together all of the ingredients and apply to your face; be sure to avoid your eyes. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Don’t forget your moisturizer!

3. Pedicure

Treat your tootsies to an easy pumpkin puree and egg masque. You may consider adding in milk and/or honey for extra softness. Combine all of your ingredients then lather on your feet and calves. Lastly, but most importantly, wrap up your feet in a plastic bag or wrap and let stand for 15-20 minutes. Moisturize and trim and file your nails as you like. For best results, exfoliate your feet and calves before rubbing on the foot masque.

4. Body Scrub

Your skin is sure to feel silky and smooth after applying a body scrub of pumpkin puree and brown sugar. Whip up your ingredients in a small bowl then gently scrub on your body in circular motions. Rinse with warm water.

5. Hair Mask

Give your strands a healthy boost with this all-natural conditioner of pumpkin, coconut and jojoba oils. After you’ve combined your ingredients, apply the mixture to your dry hair and wrap with saran wrap or shower cap to lock in the moisture. Leave on the mask for 30 minutes then rinse.

The Results of My Pumpkin Pedicure

I couldn’t resist pampering my feet to an ooey-gooey pumpkin pedicure. I mixed my ingredients as suggested in a small bowl and excitedly went into the bathroom to try it for myself. I placed each foot into a plastic bag and lathered my feet with the soppy goodness, careful to rub extra mix in between my toes and on the heels of my feet. I wore a glove to scoop the mixture, hoping to avoid sticky fingers or the tedious task of picking pumpkin from under my nails. That’s no fun! I then snuggly tied the bags shut around my ankles to not allow any air to escape or enter. And while I had a few treasured moments of relaxation, I caught up on the latest news in fashion.

After 20 minutes had passed, I untied the bags and rinsed off my feet. My feet felt smoother and softer. I finished up my mini pedicure with moisturizer and a coat of my favorite nail polish. I would try this beauty treatment again and consider adding brown sugar or honey for a bonus exfoliator!
