Driver Trainee

Company: Rumpke Waste and Recycling

The residential driver and driver trainee positions are one of our most physically demanding jobs. Drivers are responsible for servicing assigned route(s) with the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. This position routinely requires extensive physical exertion (lifting, pushing, and pulling trash receptacles weighing up to 75 pounds each from the ground approximately 300-500 times per day) and entering/exiting the truck approximately 600-1000 times per day. Drivers and Trainees are exposed to extreme weather conditions and unpleasant odors and sights. The hours and physical demand may vary by route or area.

Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand a map.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing).
  • Ability to drive truck with a manual transmission.
  • General knowledge of mechanics of trucks.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Waste industry experience, a plus.
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business.

Landfill Operations Supervisor

Company: Waste Industries

Safely monitor and supervise all site operations and employees while ensuring all equipment is in proper working order. Provide leadership, which results in positive employee/employer relations. Project a professional corporate image, effective resource management, a sound risk management program, high production standards and business expansion and profitable operations.

Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) or more years experience in the waste industry desired (landfill or transfer operations preferred).
  • One (1) year supervisory experience.
  • Combination of education and/or experience.
  • For Transfer Stations must possess (within 60 days of hire) a SWANA certified transfer station operator.
  • For Landfills must have one (1) years of experience operating horizontal baler and bobcat/forklit. Also must successfully complete training for certification in the removal of Freon and handling of hazardous materials (i.e. motor oil, lead-acid batteries, PCB’s, and CFC’s, etc.)
