Reduce Disposable Diaper Waste With These Greener Alternatives [Infographic]

disposable diaper facts selection

Disposable diapers are definitely convenient: as the grandfather of a two-year-old, I can’t get high and mighty on this topic at all. That convenience comes at a price, though: diaper waste has exploded in recent decades. According to Taflin Laylin at Fix.com, we tossed 350,000 tons of disposables into landfills. By 2012, we were throwing away ten times as many dirty diapers.

Yes, we’ve seen some really innovative approaches to recapturing that waste, but thoseย processes aren’t yet ready to attack the mountain of disposable diapers at a meaningful level. ย Shifting to commercially-available greener alternatives is the only real option we have right now.

Of course, keep in mind that no method of diapering is 100% green – all have their pros and cons. The following infographic does a very nice job of laying out diaper alternatives, and their impact on the environment. Take a look, and share your thoughts and experiences. Got an idea for making use of disposable diaper waste? Or an alternative not mentioned here? Tell us about it in the comments.
