The Semi-Organic Cuba

Posted in:

Been meaning to get to this wonderful Harper’s article (reprinted in full on Bill Totten’s Weblog) by Bill McKibben on Cuba’s transformation to widescale use of more sustainable, smaller-scale agriculture. Did this happen because the Cuban socialist system is inherently greener and morally superior to our own? Well, no… Rather, it developed out of the huge hole in food and agricultural supplies that opened up after the fall of the Soviet Union. As always with McKibben, a fascinating, engaging read.
