Earth Day Scan of the Sustainable Blogosphere

Happy Earth Day, all! Whether you’ve got big plans or not, I hope you’ll get to spend a little time with some form of earth-friendly activity today. I’ve got a ton of papers to grade, but also hope to get out into the yard with my newest batch of worm castings…
It’s been a busy week at work, so the postings have been slow. But, of course, the Sustainable Blogosphere has been abuzz with Earth Day happenings and other sustainable events, so I thought a “scan” would be appropriate…
- Diana at democracyforcalifornia points us to a great op-ed at the Detroit Free Press noting that the cry for “Earth Day Every Day” isn’t just a cool slogan any more — it should be national policy.
- Bradford Plumer at the MoJo blog links to a great WaPo article on the debate over energy policy in DC, and notes that Dubya could create a “Nixon goes to China” kind of legacy by addressing energy issues with honesty and substance. Hey, we can always dream…
- No one’s covered the details on the energy bill that House passed yesterday better than Mike at Green Car Congress. I’m certainly not missing the irony of the timing here, but we’ve still got the Senate — call you Senators and encourage them to damn this obscenity to the proper circle of legislative Hell.
- WorldChanging takes note of a pair of article from The Economist on ecological economics. The Commons Blog also comments on the second of the two articles, “Rescuing Environmentalism.”
- HippyShopper reminds us (or tells us — I didn’t know this) that next week is National Downshifting Week in Great Britain. What a wonderful concept!
- Also on the British front, Spinneyhead shows us Americans that it’s “deja vu all over again” for the environment in their national election campaign.
- The Composter reminds us that, while we celebrate our achievements today, we’ve still got some really well-funded opponents pushing scientific hogwash. Remember, folks, it’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you…

- Earth News Wire announces the winners of Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development (Seed) Initiative awards.
- Howling points us to a San Francisco Chronicle article on the pork bonanza for oil, gas and coal in the House’s energy bill, while the NRDC Action Fund blog reminds us that those same industries wrote the bill in the first place.

- And GreenMedia.info reminds us that we do have reasons to celebrate.
