College Students: Your Green Video Could be Worth $5000

National Geographic Preserve Our Planet logoGot a story, a camera, and some time over the holiday break? Get shooting — the National Geographic Preserve Our Planet College Film and PSA contest is underway. Contest winners can look forward to cash prizes, and screenings of their video the National Geographic Explorers gathering in June 2009.

This year’s theme, “Together We Can Make a Difference,” should get those wheels turning — with so many college organizations, and colleges and universities themselves, taking steps towards sustainability, there are many great stories that need to get told.

Official rules are available at the contest site.Β  The catch — the deadline for submissions is coming up pretty quickly: December 31 (sorry… just found out about this last week).

Need some inspiration?Β  Take a look at some of the finalists from last year’s contest. So far, my favorites are “What You Do Counts,” which portrays Earlham College students focused on an illegal dumping site near campus, and “The Experimental Generation” (last year’s 1st place winner), which asks students about their first time… their first time recycling, that is…

Got friends who might be interested in submitting an entry to the contest?Β  Just use the “Share/Email” link below to pass this post along to them. If you’re going to submit, please let us know about it in the comments… love to hear your stories!
