Joel Makower makes some perceptive comments on the potential of the “social enterprise model” in response to an article on the subject from The Nation. This dovetails nicely with a very interesting discussion going on at GreenBusiness.net on the appropriate relationship between green businesses and non-profits and their larger, less green counterparts that may provide necessary capital/revenue. I suppose the ultimate question (one which we’ve discussed ad infinitum): can we “save the world” through entrepreneurial activity, especially when so much business activity has contributed greatly to social and environmental destruction?
