GB #18: An Upcoming Eco-Fashion Show

Early on, I blogged about a green fashion show from this week. There’s another one coming up, on the other coast. Here’s the press release — too tired to excerpt:

Brooklyn is a hot bed of Environmental Design. It has New York’s first solar powered restaurant(Habana Outpost:Brooklyn), North America’s first LEED certified Museum(Brooklyn Children’s Museum), and three local eco-designers who are heading to Telluride Colorado to showcase new designs in a benefit runway show.

(PRWEB) February 22, 2006 — Mar 4th, 2006 three Brooklyn Eco-Fashion lines are going west to show at Telluride 13th annual AIDS benefit. Gaelyn and Cianfarani(organic materials and used bike tires www.gaelyn.com), Habana Outpost Recycled Reject (HORR-Recycled+hand printed clothes www.privatehorr.com, sponsored by www.ecoeatery.com), and CC Jewelry(sustainable forestry www.ccjoyeria.com) will be among a list of over thirty designers in the fashion show. Eco-fashion is breaking into the mainstream because customers know that what they wear is as important and will have similar affects as to how they heat their homes. Giving customers a fashionable alternative to what has been available in the past has become the key in this new and growing industry.

Telluride Benefit Fashion Show is unusual and a great place to showcase Eco-Fashion because they have a history of featuring alternative fashion designers along side of the big design houses (Chaiken, Dolce Gabbana, Juicy Couture, Maxaria). The FREE BOX DESIGN segment is truly unique where a local designer creates wearable fashion from the items found in Telluride’s famous FREE BOX (The Free Box a collection of deposit boxes just of Main Street for old clothes and household items. “A Telluride Tradition”, where anyone can come and pick out what they could use and take it with them).

“The Free Box Designer is a great example of re-use within the realm of Eco-fashion, and is always my favorite part of the show” says Gaelyn of Gaelyn and Cianfarnai (www.gaelyn.com)

Fashion week in Telluride includes much more than just the Gala Show:

Student Fashion Show, ?Fashion Auction & Youth Fusion,
Sneak Peek Fashion Show and Auction,MAC Cosmetics Beauty Luncheon, HIV/AIDS testing, Opening Night Receptions and Silent Art Auctions, The 13th Annual TAB Gala Fashion Show and Auction, and will end with the Designer Trunk Show.

The Telluride AIDS Benefit (“TAB”) is a non-profit grass-roots organization committed to raising awareness in our local communities about HIV/AIDS.
