I Heard the News Today, Oh Boy…

Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s announcement of her retirement from the Supreme Court should have all progressives holding their breath. Guest Gristmill blogger Emily Gertz has some thoughts on the announcement, and points us to a piece published on BushGreenWatch only yesterday that considered the ramifications on environmental policy of a Supreme Court vacancy. Obviously, all of us were looking at Chief Justice Renquist as the next to go (that’s who BGW mentioned), but O’Connor’s status as a swing voter could acutally be much more damaging if a anti-environmental nut job (and you know that’s what Dubya and his cronies want) makes it throught the confirmation process. I’d love to say that can’t happen, but we’re definitely cursed to live in interesting times…
