In Transition…

I’ve been culling through the newswires and blog posts this morning, but it occurred to me that I needed to let all of you know that sustainablog will be undergoing a bit of a transition over the next few weeks. As those of you who’ve followed sustainablog know, I’ve been hunting for work outside of my comfort zone of college teaching. After much thought and discussion with my wife, I’ve taken a rather radical step: I’ve resigned my position at the university. While I’m not yet sure if this is the boldest or the dumbest thing I’ve ever done, I’ve come to realize that my lifestyle over the past few years hasn’t been particularly sustainable — not only does it involve an awful lot of driving (over 300 miles most weeks), but the time away from my home and family, and the almost total seperation between work and personal life have made it difficult to sustain my own sense of wellness. I’ve needed a change, and decided to make it happen.

I’m not completely sure what this means for sustainablog right now, other than things will change. I’ll be working a temporary job with a local publication for the next few weeks that will leave me little time for blogging, although I hope to get a post up a day. I’ve got some other irons in the fire, and feel certain that at least one, if not more, of them will develop into something good. Of course, I welcome your suggestions…

While change of this magnitude is both liberating and frightening, I’m approaching it as a personal and professional opportunity. I believe this is an opportunity to rethink what I’m doing here, also, and would love your feedback on what you would like to see more/less of at sustainablog, as well as any ideas you might have for reconceiving the blog. I’m pretty happy with it, but recognize that there’s always room for improvement. Everything’s on the table except for the mission: I still want the blog to serve as a resource on all things ‘green.’ Many of you have been very helpful over the past 2 1/2 years, and I value your input. Fire away in the broadest sense: what would you like to see sustainablog be/become…?

Thanks in advance for your ideas and your support.
