Noah’s Flood and the Grand Canyon

Just in case the previous post didn’t give you enough ammunition on how out-of-touch our fearless leaders are on environmental policy, the Sierra Club’s Daily Scoop has a couple of items (here and here) that should seal the deal for you. Among the choices these geniuses have made: “The government chose to allow the sale of a book at Grand Canyon National Park claiming that Noah’s flood created the fissure just 4,500 years ago, not six million years ago, as scientists believe.” I’m all in favor of free expression of religious beliefs, but I also realize there’s a stark difference between myth (and I’m using that term in its most neutral sense) and science. How can we expect to make any real progress towards sustainable development when our leaders are still fighting the Scopes Monkey Trial?
