It’s estimated that American families waste at least three times more food between Thanksgiving and New Year’s than at other times of the year. Commonly referred to as the cousin of blueberries, cranberries are jam packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory uses. They help promote gastrointestinal and oral health, and may even stop the development of cancer. Their high amounts of vitamins C and K make them a valued component in many skin creams and anti-aging products. In fact, cranberry extract helps to decrease the appearance of wrinkles by improving the skin’s elasticity. It also aids in locking in moisture to prevent dry skin, itchiness, and redness. All-Natural Cranberry Facial Treatment Recipe
Over the years I’ve told you about my experiences of using fruits and sugar and salt scrubs to maintain the health of my skin. Now I’m adding cranberries to my beauty regime. I found this easy-to-follow recipe to make a Cranberry Anti-Aging Face Mask over on MultiCultural Beauty’s blog. You’ll need these ingredients to get started:
- 1 cup fresh cranberries,
- 1 cup seedless red grapes,
- 2 teaspoons grapefruit juice and
- 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin
Mix ingredients until it becomes a paste. Cover and refrigerate for 45 minutes to let the mixture thicken. Remove from the fridge and let sit for about 10 minutes. As with any new skincare treatment, apply the mask to a less sensitive area of the body like the forearm before rubbing it on your face. If there are no signs of irritation at the site, spread the mixture on clean, dry skin. Be sure to avoid the eyes. Sit and relax for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water. You’ll soon feel revitalized!
