{"id":1184,"date":"2005-05-19T20:58:00","date_gmt":"2005-05-19T20:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablog.greenoptions.com\/2005\/05\/19\/green-and-extreme\/"},"modified":"2005-05-19T20:58:00","modified_gmt":"2005-05-19T20:58:00","slug":"green-and-extreme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/articles\/green-and-extreme\/","title":{"rendered":"Green and Extreme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I simply can&#8217;t think of a better way to get a whole lot of Americans thinking about renewable energy for their home than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renewableenergyaccess.com\/rea\/market\/business\/viewstory;jsessionid=amq1r65ENBp7?id=30195\">incorporating it into a reality show.<\/a>  That&#8217;s right: &#8220;Extreme Makeover: Home Edition&#8221; is going green for its season finale.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The two-hour show will highlight a unique renewable energy system, the first of its kind in Arizona. PV Powered of Bend, Oregon, along with Sun Power Corporation (CA), Perfect Power (AZ), Unirac (NM) and The Good Power Company (AZ) were chosen to coordinate, design and install a state-of-the-art, 2kW PV generation system for the deserving family&#8217;s new home. The system uses a combination of the highest efficiency inverter (PV Powered) and modules (Sun Power) available today.<\/p>\n<p>As an added bonus, Southwest Windpower installed a 1kW wind turbine to augment the home&#8217;s PV system. With an abundance of sunshine and wind available in Flagstaff, the home will receive 65-75% of its energy needs through clean, green renewable sources, and the Piestewa Family will see a significant decrease in energy costs.
