Since I graduated from college in 2001, I\u2019ve helped save tens of millions of square feet of rainforest. However, I don\u2019t work for a non-profit, nor the government, and I\u2019m not an activist. I\u2019m an entrepreneur! <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a partner in a company called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redjellyfish.com\">RedJellyfish.com<\/a>. Among other things, we offer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redjellyfish.com\/green-services\/internet.html\">Internet access<\/a> that saves rainforest \u2013 500 square feet per subscriber, per month. We do this by taking part of each member\u2019s monthly fee that we receive and donating it to <a href=\"http:\/\/nature.org\/\">The Nature Conservancy<\/a>. They then take those funds and literally buy and protect 500 square feet of rainforest per subscriber, per month. <\/p>\n<p>The result is a very happy situation: The more customers we have, the more rainforest we save. This turns the general understanding of business on its head. Far too often, as we all know, business is bad for the environment and her people. But it doesn\u2019t have to be this way.<\/p>\n<p>There is a growing movement of \u201cgreen businesses\u201d out there. What is a green business? A regular business focuses on a single bottom line \u2013 profit. A green business focuses on a triple bottom line: planet, people, and profits. <\/p>\n<p>The impact of these green businesses is substantial and is literally growing every day. For instance, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newmansown.com\/\">Newman\u2019s Own<\/a> has raised over $150 million for charity, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patagonia.com\/\">Patagonia<\/a> over $18 million, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.workingassets.com\/\">Working Assets<\/a> has raised over $47 million, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wildlifeworks.com\/\">Wildlife Works<\/a> purchased 80,000 acres in Africa and turned it into an elephant sanctuary. And on and on and on.
