{"id":1432,"date":"2005-07-12T07:43:00","date_gmt":"2005-07-12T07:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablog.greenoptions.com\/2005\/07\/12\/brc-40-how-green-is-your-half-blood-prince\/"},"modified":"2005-07-12T07:43:00","modified_gmt":"2005-07-12T07:43:00","slug":"brc-40-how-green-is-your-half-blood-prince","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/articles\/brc-40-how-green-is-your-half-blood-prince\/","title":{"rendered":"BRC 40: How Green is Your Half-Blood Prince?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As booksellers prepare for an orgy of buying with the release of the newest Harry Potter novel, environmental groups in the US are urging consumers to <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&amp;u=\/cpress\/20050711\/ca_pr_on_en\/books_potter_greenpeace_1\">buy Canadian.<\/a> Apparently, the Canadian version (by Raincoast publishing) is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper; the American version by Scholastic is not, and critics are claiming that the paper used in the American version originates in old-growth forests.  Scholastic, of course, denies the allegation, and hints that maybe Raincoast isn&#8217;t being completely honest&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m all in favor of as much recycled content as possible, but I have to wonder if anyone here really can state with certainty the exact percentage of recycled material in the paper other than the paper manufacturer?
