{"id":1504,"date":"2005-08-01T18:17:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-01T18:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablog.greenoptions.com\/2005\/08\/01\/john-deere-moving-into-wind-power\/"},"modified":"2005-08-01T18:17:00","modified_gmt":"2005-08-01T18:17:00","slug":"john-deere-moving-into-wind-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/articles\/john-deere-moving-into-wind-power\/","title":{"rendered":"John Deere Moving into Wind Power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.triplepundit.com\/pages\/john-deere-making-sizable-wind-001380.php\">TriplePundit<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globegazette.com\/articles\/2005\/07\/30\/business\/doc42eaba1b7a55d624366547.txt\">news<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deere.com\/en_US\/deerecom\/usa_canada.html\">Deere &amp; Co<\/a>.&#8217;s investment of up to $60 million in wind energy projects across rural America.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a rapidly growing area of interest for farmers to harvest wind instead of the traditional soybeans or corn,&#8221; Ken Golden, Deere spokesman, said in announcing the new venture Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the latest trend is to put up one or two turbines a year so they eventually can sell the energy the units produce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It helps the rural economy. For the farmer, it can be a steady income,&#8221; Golden said.<\/p>\n<p>Moline, Ill.-based Deere already has invested $8 million in this year in rural wind projects. Golden said the company has created a new business unit to oversee its investment in wind harvesting and plans to be an equity partner in several projects.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Deere will not be getting into the business of building wind turbines, but &#8220;will provide financing to help develop wind farms, as well as providing other services related to production&#8230;&#8221; On it&#8217;s face, this seems like a &#8220;win-win&#8221; situation all around.
