{"id":1520,"date":"2005-08-04T16:52:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-04T16:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablog.greenoptions.com\/2005\/08\/04\/greening-car-paint\/"},"modified":"2005-08-04T16:52:00","modified_gmt":"2005-08-04T16:52:00","slug":"greening-car-paint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/articles\/greening-car-paint\/","title":{"rendered":"Greening Car Paint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My simplistic title likely doesn&#8217;t do nearly enough justice to the ideas contained in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greencarcongress.com\/2005\/08\/ford_developing.html\">this post from Green Car Congress<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ford has been engaged in an ambitious multi-year project to reshape the financial and environmental costs associated with vehicle painting through a new painting process that provides a 15\u201375 percentage point reduction in VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and a 20%\u201325% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to other current processes (as well as reducing the cost per vehicle).<\/p>\n<p>As another tool to achieve the goal, and complementary to the new painting process, Ford has developed and is deploying a fumes-to-fuel system that captures and condenses the VOCs emissions from painting and then uses them as fuel to produce electricity to help power the paint shop.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mike&#8217;s post is incredibly informative and detailed, even giving a brief history of car painting.
