Friend of sustainablog <a href=\"http:\/\/daynareggero.com\/\">Dayna Reggero<\/a> outlines an event today to get you thinking about the choices you make when buying paper.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today, an international network of more than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/environmentalpaper.org\/vision\/\">120 organizations<\/a>\u00a0on six continents is unveiling\u00a0a new\u00a0<em>Global Paper Vision<\/em>.\u00a0The\u00a0<em>Vision\u00a0<\/em>includes seven priorities for transforming <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2014\/04\/16\/genetically-engineered-trees-greater-biofuel-paper-production\/\">paper production<\/a>, trade and use including new emphasis on fair access to paper\u2019s benefits, social responsibility, greenhouse gas reduction, and transparency.<\/p>\n<h3>What is the Global Paper Vision?<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What is the Global Paper Vision? #WhatsInYourPaper\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/videoseries?list=PLmYoHsU2la4XDebxgYhyKELDl2--eblHI\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jikalahari realized one of the underlying causes of <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/2014\/06\/forests-important-barrier-greater-global-climate-change-infographic\/\">deforestation<\/a> in Indonesia comes from activities of timber plantations to fulfill the world\u2019s demand for pulp and paper, and that is why we need a Global Paper Vision,&#8221; says Woro Supartinah of Jikalahari in Riau Province, the province experiencing the most deforestation in Indonesia in the last two decades. &#8220;In many cases pulp and paper industry expansion has been associated with social conflict, forest-fires, lost livelihood of local and forest dependent people, loss of biodiversity, violations of law, corruption and modern slavery.
