And, with modern safety guidelines, it\u2019s unlikely your child is going to want to use it for his or her future offspring. So I was thrilled to find a long-lasting way to re-use this potential heirloom. However, I was left with a large piece that I didn\u2019t need in the swing, and solid oak is simply too good to put on the scrap heap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-2-crib-side.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18917\" src=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-2-crib-side.jpg\" alt=\"crib side\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-2-crib-side.jpg 480w, https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-2-crib-side-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After pondering the best use for this item (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hometalk.com\/442708\/make-an-old-crib-into-a-drying-rack\">Drying rack?<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/What-to-do-With-an-Old-Baby-Crib\/\">Pot rack?<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/diyhshp.blogspot.ca\/2012\/03\/repurposed-crib-into-book-storage.html\">Bookshelf?<\/a>), I thought about my biggest need and arrived in front of my closet.<\/p>\n<p>Despite my better efforts and an incredibly useful closet insert, I find it hard to control the clutter. It\u2019s not the clothes so much, or the shoes; it\u2019s the accessories. Scarves, belts, hats, handbags\u2014they all end up in a pile at the bottom of the closet. The old adage \u201cOut of sight is out of mind,\u201d is even more true when it comes to clothing, and when these accessories disappear into the darkest recesses of my closet, they end up never getting worn. What I needed was an accessories rack, something that would organize and display the items so I could easily see what I own.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18918\" src=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan.jpg\" alt=\"the plan\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan.jpg 640w, https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Image-3-the-plan-186x186.jpg 186w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I zeroed in on an empty spot on the bedroom wall that was <a href=\"http:\/\/feelgoodstyle.com\/2014\/05\/02\/mix-match-decor-accessories-create-charmingly-cohesive-home\/\">in need of some decor<\/a>. Within easy reach of the closet, the space was just the right size to fit the last remaining piece of my crib. Here\u2019s how I went about turning my old crib into a closet accessory rack:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supplies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Primer (I used a spray paint primer)<\/li>\n<li>Satin gloss interior paint<\/li>\n<li>Knobs or hooks for hanging bags and hats<\/li>\n<li>Drywall anchors to attach the rack to the wall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Circular saw for trimming the crib side to the right dimensions<\/li>\n<li>Screwdriver for attaching the knobs<\/li>\n<li>Drill for making holes in the crib for the knobs<\/li>\n<li>Paint brush<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Remove the extra pieces on the crib with a circular saw, leaving a symmetrical rack.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-4-extra-pieces.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18919\" src=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-4-extra-pieces.jpg\" alt=\"extra pieces\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-4-extra-pieces.jpg 480w, https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/image-4-extra-pieces-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Prime the crib for painting by applying two coats of spray primer. As a bonus, it has really freed up a lot of shelves in my closet that were previously cluttered and disorganized.
