If you’ve come by through the sustainablog domain in the last few days, you may have scratched your head and asked “Am I at the right place?” Yep… welcome to sustainablog 3.0! After a great couple of years as a part of the GO Media Network, I wanted to try something new: namely, the blog you know along with a store featuring a wide range of eco-products. Here it is…

Obviously, this is a big change on a number of fronts, and I’m sure you have questions. So, in addition to welcoming you to the new site, I’ll try to answer some of those questions.

The ad sales model for online content is a tough game… even tougher when the economy’s in the tank. Banner ad space is widely available, so it’s cheap… and that means you have to create a lot of it, and drive a ton of traffic, to make the numbers add up. I’ve got a lot of respect for how well the folks at GO and Virgance have managed with this model, but I realized it just wasn’t for me… I’d much rather focus on building a loyal audience (even if that means readership growth isn’t as quick), and creating a monetization model that meets the needs of that audience. So, the short answers are financial viability and serving the sustainablog audience to the best of my ability. It allows us to focus on products that we know green consumers (wherever they are on the “green spectrum“) will want and need. If you’re visiting sustainablog, you’ve got some level of interest in a more sustainable lifestyle… so having green products available for you at the site seemed like a no-brainer.

So, why the changes to sustainablog?

How’s a store do all of that better?

What can I find in the store?
