I kept a close eye on what was happening in the green blogosphere, and frequently responded to, or extrapolated from, the ideas my fellow bloggers put out there.<\/p>\n<p>While I do still keep a close eye on things, I&#8217;ve made a conscious effort over the last few years to avoid contributing to an &#8220;echo chamber&#8221; within our space&#8230; something gets lost if we&#8217;re all writing about the same things. But something also gets lost if we&#8217;re not talking amongst ourselves: blogging is a form of social media, and my efforts to keep things unique have also made me less&#8230; well&#8230; social.<\/p>\n<p>So, in recognition of the larger green blogging community, today I&#8217;m launching a new feature: Five for Friday. Each Friday, I&#8217;ll take note of five posts on other blogs within the environmental blogosphere that caught my attention&#8230;<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>The inaugural Five for Friday: green blog posts from the week<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Today&#8217;s <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeleague.org\/programs\/bikemonth\/\"><strong>Bike to Work Day<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> and Paul Smith at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.triplepundit.com\">Triplepundit<\/a> devotes his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.triplepundit.com\/2010\/05\/green-goose-bike-to-work-day\/\">Startup Friday<\/a> post this week to a company promoting bicycling, fitness, and some healthy competition: <a href=\"http:\/\/greengoose.com\/\">Green Goose<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>I&#8217;m a big fan of <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/joemohrtoons.com\/\"><strong>Joe Mohr&#8217;s cartoons<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>and I&#8217;m simply aghast at some of the things Rush Limbaugh has said about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill&#8230; so here&#8217;s Joe&#8217;s latest artistic contribution to <a href=\"http:\/\/twilightearth.com\/\">Twilight Earth<\/a>: Rush is major source of <a href=\"http:\/\/twilightearth.com\/environment\/rush-limbaugh-1-source-of-greenhouse-gas-emission\/\">greenhouse gas emissions<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Speaking of things Rush has said about the oil spill<\/strong>&#8230; Tim Hurst has a great list of some of the more <a href=\"http:\/\/ecopolitology.org\/2010\/05\/19\/the-7-most-ridiculous-things-rush-limbaugh-has-said-about-bps-oil-spill\/\">ridiculous statements<\/a> up at <a href=\"http:\/\/ecopolitology.org\">ecopolitology<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heading to the farmers market this weekend? <\/strong>You may want to pick up ingredients for this <a href=\"http:\/\/eatdrinkbetter.com\/2010\/05\/18\/easy-gluten-free-crust-for-quiche-and-pies\/\">gluten-free quiche recipe<\/a> Rachel Shulman shared at <a href=\"http:\/\/eatdrinkbetter.com\">Eat.Drink.Better<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guilt&#8217;s generally not a great motivator&#8230;<\/strong> but, as Siel Ju points at <a href=\"http:\/\/greenlagirl.com\">Green LA Girl<\/a>, sometimes it works: see how the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenlagirl.com\/monterey-bay-aquarium-guilted-me-into-using-my-peopletowel\/\">Monterey Bay Aquarium<\/a> got her to avoid using paper towels to dry her hands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And since it&#8217;s our first edition of Five for Friday&#8230; let&#8217;s break the rules&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t want to use Five for Friday for self-promotion,<\/strong> but I am thankful to the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/solar.calfinder.com\">home solar power<\/a> site Calfinders for publishing <a href=\"http:\/\/solar.calfinder.com\/blog\/calfinder\/living-and-teaching-the-sustainable-lifestyle-interview-with-jeff-mcintire-strasburg\/\">this interview<\/a> with me&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, limiting this to five posts means we miss a lot of good stuff&#8230; so feel free to share other great green blog posts from the week in the comments.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ready to start your own green blog?
