Like previous weeks, the oil spill continues to be the big story on the environmental front (and I&#8217;m looking forward to a time when I don&#8217;t have to write that). Got one post of these week&#8217;s five that&#8217;s spill-related&#8230; but there&#8217;s a lot more going on the green blogosphere&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s get to it&#8230; this week&#8217;s Five for Friday:<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A black bean burger even a Cajun could love:<\/strong> Came across <a href=\"http:\/\/vegmissy.blogspot.com\/\">Vegan in Louisiana<\/a> (based in my hometown of Lake Charles) this week, and definitely want to give Missy&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/vegmissy.blogspot.com\/2010\/06\/mac-n-cheese-and-black-bean-burgers.html\">black bean rice burger<\/a> recipe a try&#8230; sounds fantastic (and fitting&#8230; everything in Louisiana comes with rice).<\/li>\n<li><strong>California town goes (almost) completely solar: <\/strong>OK, Nipton, CA, only has a population of 38, but being situated in the Mojave Desert would make solar power a no-brainer. Susan Kramer at <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\">Cleantechnica<\/a> tells the story of their <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2010\/06\/10\/small-mojave-desert-town-goes-85-solar\">new solar installation<\/a>, which provides 85% of their electricity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Off-grid in the city: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/arkfab.org\/\">ArkFab<\/a> is an &#8220;appropriate biotech collective&#8221; in Atlanta, GA (and one of its members is former Green Options intern extraordinaire Liam &#8220;Pip&#8221; Rattray) that&#8217;s launching an <a href=\"http:\/\/arkfab.org\/?p=19\">off-the-grid<\/a>, &#8220;community sufficient&#8221; home right in the city itself. Check out the pictures of the work they&#8217;ve already done&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mushrooms to the rescue: <\/strong>Mycologist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fungi.com\/front\/stamets\/index.html\">Paul Stamets<\/a> thinks containment booms made from mushrooms could help with the Gulf oil spill, and claims that the EPA&#8217;s interested in hearing more. <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cleantechies.com\/2010\/06\/10\/epa-use-mushrooms-breakdown-bp-oil\/\">Cleantechies<\/a> has more (and, yep, gave this one some love at this week&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sundancechannel.com\/sunfiltered\/2010\/06\/green-tech-finds-61010\/\">Green tech finds<\/a>&#8221; at SUNfiltered).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cheap eco-fashion?<\/strong> Yep, it&#8217;s out there&#8230; at the thrift store&#8230; no clothes are greener than reused clothes. Rowena Ritchie provides a &#8220;mission plan&#8221; for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecosalon.com\/thrift-store-reconnaissance-youre-on-an-eco-fashion-mission\/\">hitting the thrift stores<\/a> effectively at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecosalon.com\">EcoSalon<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s our five&#8230; but there was a lot more good stuff out there this week.
