Not surprising, of course&#8230; but many, many other interesting, relevant stories out there. Here&#8217;s five that caught my eye&#8230;<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Five for Friday: A few great green blog posts for you&#8230;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marvin Gaye responds to the oil spill:<\/strong> OK, not really, but <a href=\"http:\/\/planetsave.com\">Planetsave<\/a> takes note of <a href=\"http:\/\/thepaulicarmanshow.posterous.com\/the-pauli-carman-show-the-mercy-project-proje#\">The Mercy Project<\/a>, which remade Gaye&#8217;s classic eco- pop song &#8220;Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)&#8221; to <a href=\"http:\/\/planetsave.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/24\/the-mercy-project-update-first-listening-of-pauli-carman-remake-of-marvin-gaye-classic-mercy-mercy-me\/\">raise funds for the oil spill<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synthetic Fertilizers Good for the Climate?<\/strong> That&#8217;s the argument a team at Stanford makes in a new paper, claiming that without fertilizers, we&#8217;d have <a href=\"http:\/\/green.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/23\/in-fertilizer-a-climatic-dividend\/\">leveled more forests<\/a> to increase agricultural output. From\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/green.blogs.nytimes.com\/\/\">NYT&#8217;s Green<\/a>&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><strong>German boy plants 1 million trees: <\/strong>Well, not by himself&#8230; but, from the age of 9, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.care2.com\/greenliving\/boy-inspires-planting-of-one-million-trees.html\">Felix Finkbeiner<\/a> has been pushing tree planting. By the time he was 12, his organization <a href=\"http:\/\/plant-for-the-planet.org\/\">Plant for the Planet<\/a> had planted a million trees in Felix&#8217;s home country. Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.care2.com\/greenliving\/\">Care2 Healthy &amp; Green Living<\/a> for the heads up&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saving glaciers by painting mountains white: <\/strong>That&#8217;s what they&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/greenlivingideas.com\/topics\/climate-change-global-warming\/geoengineering-peru-paints-mountain-white-save-glacier\">trying in Peru<\/a>&#8230; Inventor Eduardo Gold&#8217;s idea involves painting mountains with a paint made from lime and egg whites. Despite a lack of funding thus far, they&#8217;re moving ahead, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/greenlivingideas.com\">Green Living Ideas<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Whale poop is good stuff: <\/strong>&#8220;Save the whales&#8221; takes on a whole new meaning&#8230;\u00a0A new study in <em>The Proceedings of the Royal Society B<\/em> argues that <a href=\"http:\/\/crispgreen.com\/2010\/06\/whale-poo-is-good-for-the-environment\/\">sperm whale poop<\/a> is a viable weapon against climate change, according to <a
