{"id":783,"date":"2005-02-20T16:15:00","date_gmt":"2005-02-20T16:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablog.greenoptions.com\/2005\/02\/20\/more-thoughts-on-private-action\/"},"modified":"2005-02-20T16:15:00","modified_gmt":"2005-02-20T16:15:00","slug":"more-thoughts-on-private-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainablog.org\/articles\/more-thoughts-on-private-action\/","title":{"rendered":"More Thoughts on Private Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dave Roberts has posted <a href=\"http:\/\/gristmill.grist.org\/story\/2005\/2\/20\/12647\/3187\">a thoughtful response<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/sustainablog.blogspot.com\/2005\/02\/conservation-through-private-action.html\">the Commons blog piece I discussed on Friday<\/a>.  Dave hits the nail right on the head &#8212; the &#8220;free market environmentalists&#8221; at Commons make no distinction between an &#8220;invidual private owner&#8221; and a &#8220;corporate private owner.&#8221;  If we can hope to see any real manifestation of the type of private ownership discussed at Commons, we have to start distinguishing between these two entities.  In other words, the concept of corporate personhood is untenable to sustainable development.  Furthermore, I&#8217;m sticking to my guns on the notion of government as the protector of the civil\/common sphere.
