A massive African reforestation initiative launches… one of this week's Five for Friday

Yep… it’s still all oil spill in terms of the top subjects indexed by Regator. Fortunately, it’s been a good week on that front: the cap seems to be holding, and a video of one of the most moving pleas for help every went viral… if you haven’t seen crawfisher Drew Landry singing to the White House oil spill commission, take a look… but have a¬†handkerchief¬†nearby.

Once you’ve checked that out, see what else caught our attention this week… from the hopeful to the kind of weird…

Our green blog post picks for the week: Five for Friday

  1. Flushing the dead — not just for goldfish anymore: Blisstree describes itself as “a new women’s wellness site with a sense of humor,” and yesterday’s post on a process to make dead bodies “flushable” certainly highlights the latter element… and, yes, this is a real story.
  2. But can you see it from space? Green Living Ideas takes note of the “Great Green Wall” project, a plan to fight desertification in Africa by planting a 9 mile by 4400 mile wall of trees “through 11 countries in the Sahel-Saharan region.”
  3. Climate change… it’s whats for dinner: Eat.Drink…Better points us to a new short film from non-profit WHY Hunger that explores the connection between climate change and our food system.
  4. Smart grid hurdles… that can be overcome: Tim Hurst at Celsias provides a very thorough overview of some of the challenges facing the development of a smart electricity grid… and why they’re not insurmountable.
  5. Cork fashion: Apparently, cork’s good for more than stopping wine bottles and covering the floors — Rowena Ritchie at EcoSalon takes a look at a rather stylish bag made from this renewable material.

That’s five from us… what caught your eye this week?

No cork bags (yet), but we do have a wide range of fashion accessory listings in the Green Choices product comparison engine, including belts, handkerchiefs, gloves, and Citizen Eco Drive watches.
