Toxins in Food: Some Real Threats, Some Not [Infographic]
We’ve discussed the issue of toxins in food on a number of occasions, and found that context is incredibly important: as you’ll see in the infographic below, some commonly-consumed chemical compounds are toxic… you’d just need to ingest an awful lot of it to do any damage. But there are chemicals commonly added to foods we eat that do nothing for us… and may cause us harm in the long run.
After looking through the first list of “poisons” in your food, the broader message seems clear: fresh, minimally processed foods are almost always the best choice for overall health. Greens from your garden, tomatoes from the farmers’ market, or even meat from a ranch that avoids processed feeds will always be better for you than many of the manufactured foodstuffs we find in the grocery store.
Know of other compounds commonly added to our food that are dangerous? Share them with us in the comments.
