Do 1 Thing to Save Energy at Home: Change a Light [Infographic]

I often get asked “What’s the most important thing I can do to save the environment?” That’s a big question, no doubt, and one driven by other values and priorities. I often encourage people to think small, rather than large: little acts do add up over time, and they’re much easier to turn into habits.

I’m guessing that’s the kind of thinking going on behind ENERGY STAR’s new “Do 1 Thing ENERGY STAR” campaign. Between now and the end of the year, the government agency will focus on the little things all of us can do to save energy and fight climate change. This week’s theme is lighting, and the campaign has created a range of good content to help you make the most efficient choices (while also making sure you can see well!). So, if you’re still trying to figure out the difference between CFLs, LEDs, and incandescent bulbs, and which will work best for your needs, check out:

  • a Twitter party this afternoon at 2pm Eastern for sharing tips:Β #Do1ThingENERGYSTAR;
  • a two-part podcast featuring experts from ENERGY STAR, the Home Depot, and NRDC; and
  • the infographic that I’ve published below on efficient lighting choices.

Yeah, light bulbs is one of those topics on which I get a lot of questions, too – no doubt many of you have ideas for cutting your energy use and spending on this necessity. If so, share them in the comments with us.
