Getting Help from the Church in Australia

From the Australian Broadcasting Corporation via Eco-Portal, news that

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) has turned to the Church in its campaign to halt climate change.

The ACF has formed an alliance with the National Council of Churches to encourage Christians to write to, or visit, their Federal MP to lobby for a re-think on water and energy use.

As I’ve said on numerous occasions, I think this is a smart step. If various churches around the world can frame environmentalism and sustainability as moral and spiritual issues (and I think they are), we’re that much better off. Politics are important, no doubt, but finding common ground with people in social and religious institutions may ultimately be much more effective.
